Just like Samsung with the Galaxy Note 8, LG hasn’t got a lot to announce with the V30 when they take to the stage at IFA later this month.
The update from LG confirms the V30 will be launched at the Maritim Hotel in Berlin on the 31st of August at 9am CET (that’s 5pm AEST on August 31st), which is press day before IFA kicks off. LG has also confirmed that they will be live-streaming the event on their Facebook page and YouTube channel for those not able to attend in person.
LG has promised a Plastic OLED (P-OLED) display with an 18:9 (2:1) aspect ratio and QHD+ (1440 x 2880) resolution on the V30, which should measure 6″ in size. Internally we should be seeing a Snapdragon 835 processor with either 4GB or 6GB of RAM, and at least 64GB of on-board storage. Previous leaks have shown a dual camera setup and fingerprint sensor on the rear of the phone.
One big mystery is what will happen with the secondary display on the phone, with rumours of a floating notification bar circulating, but we’ll have to wait for more details on that one.
There’s not long left till we see what LG has to offer on the V30, so stay tuned to find out what happens.
I do not see anything special about this V30, the market will decide soon on its popularity.
It will only be a good device if LG offer the same specs in all markets. One of the deal breaker for me with the G6 was the lack of all the features in the Australian version.
Unfortunately it’s sounding like they might be stupid again, with the V30 and the Korea-only V30plus with different specs.
Someone needs to give the LG managers a big slap.
My biggest gripe with the G6 has been the LCD. Its great in sunlight and perfectly fine in good lighting, but as soon as the light dims or you try and use the Ambient display, light bleed is obvious everywhere. And as much as some in the tech press will hate an OLED for over saturation, it trounces having dull colours and milky whites with an LCD. If they can fix this with a P-OLED and keep the great screen design and hardware they’ll be onto a winner.
Do not want to be disappointed with this. LG V30 must be as good as it sounds.
