Earlier this year we reported on the possibility that Samsung were working on a foldable smartphone codenamed Project Valley. It appears this possibility is in fact a reality with it receiving another certification recently.
The foldable Samsung phone, known as the Galaxy X with the model number SM-G888N0, has just received certification from South Korea’s National Radio Research Agency. It has already received it’s WiFi and Bluetooth certification earlier this year meaning that the phone could launch anytime soon.
According to the certifications on the Wi-Fi alliance and Bluetooth SIG web pages the Samsung Galaxy X will arrive with Bluetooth 4.2 and runs Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. This seems a bit off as Samsung are releasing their phones currently with Nougat and Bluetooth 5.0. Rumours have the foldable phone launching in two variants, the Galaxy X and the Galaxy X1.
It is highly unlikely we’ll ever see this phone here in Australia with Samsung most likely testing the waters with it in their home country of South Korea towards the end of this year or early 2018. One thing it does do it signal Samsung’s push for new, innovative devices. Remember they did something similar with the curved displays so this foldable display may well become mainstream in the coming years, just as curved displays have.
