If you’re looking for a new mobile deal, then today’s the day to be tempted by a hot offer from Telstra and JB HiFi. First spotted in their advertising and widely circulated via Oz Bargain since, new Telstra customers this weekend can score one hell of a bargain.
This offer is for new Telstra customers only, so if you’re an existing Telstra customer, you’ll either need to (a) miss out this time, or (b) very quickly port out to a prepaid on another network, and then port back as part of the deal.
So, what is this deal and what do you get?
For $49 a month, you get:
- 20GB included data (comprising 15GB on the plan itself and 5GB bonus data)
- Unlimited calls and SMS to Australian numbers
- $59 a month on a 12-month contract, with $10 bonus credit for porting in a number
- Bonus $200 JB HiFi gift voucher
Neerav has done the math, and this works out to about $32 a month if you apportion the included JB HiFi voucher over the 12 month contract period. Neerav was also able to port out to Vodafone and back in order to take up this deal, so if you’ve got an hour or two to kill this afternoon, and you’re looking for a new contract with a tonne of included value, this is a great opportunity.

Not strictly true, Telstra have been known to match (or fairly closely match) new customer offers for existing customers especially once their customer retention teams become involved.
If you’re an existing telstra customer who is out of contract or nearing the end of your contract why not try and get a price match? You wouldn’t get the $200 JB voucher but $49 for 20GB of data is pretty sweet.
