OnePlus have produced a great device in the OnePlus 5. They are set to improve on this with a new display ratio and camera in the upcoming OnePlus 5T, scheduled to be announced this week. Ahead of the announcement we have seen various leaks but today’s leak suggests that Australia may be bypassed by OnePlus again.

Overnight a German website has unboxed the OnePlus 5T and captured it all on camera – still photos, not videos unfortunately. Along with pictures of the phone there are also pictures of the marketing material which show where the OnePlus 5T will be sold, and Australia is missing off the list. This does not mean that OnePlus will not do a limited sale into Australia but it is unlikely to become a permanent thing at this stage.

The pictures reveal very little of what we didn’t already but show some nice comparisons of the phone alongside other devices including a OnePlus 5 and a Samsung Galaxy S8. They show a nice clean version of Android once again and the high quality style covers.

The marketing material also gives away the specs of the phone. The phone’s dimensions will be 156.1 x 75 x 7.3mm and weigh 162 grams due to the anodised aluminium build material. Inside it will be powered by a Snapdragon 835 like its predecessor and come in 6GB/64GB and 8GB/128GB variants. Once again the USB port is a type-C but only USB 2.0 but supports USB audio although it still has the 3.5mm headphone jack. It does support all of the same bands as the OnePlus 5 thus will work perfectly here in Australia.

The display itself is a 6.01 inch 1080P 18:9 aspect ratio AMOLED display protected by Gorilla Glass 5. The rear camera is once again a dual camera system with the main camera being 16MP with an aperture of f/1.7. The secondary rear camera is an f/1.7 20MP camera. The front camera is a very decent 16MP f/2.0.

The OnePlus 5T look set to be a beast of a phone running a fast clean unhindered version of Android. We saw the OnePlus 5 come here officially for a brief period wetting our whistles for a more permanent sale. Hopefully we do not have to go back to using grey-market importers to get our hands on one.

Although all the marketing material point to it not permanently selling here all will be revealed in a several days time in New York. We have reached out to OnePlus for information on a possible Australian sale. If it happens we do not expect it to be in the first round of releases. We will let you know if and when we hear more.

Isn’t it a huge risk to buy a phone from overseas that is not available for the Aussie market .what if you have issues with the phones where do you take them and warranty there is no local warranty .its a lot of money to risk

I was really interested in the OP5T but if OnePlus aren’t going to sell it directly to Australia with Australian wall adapter and warranty then maybe I’ll give it a miss along with the HTC U11 plus. Ah well..

Will I be able to order from their website?

FML. Why is it so hard to find decent phones in Australia that isn’t a Samsung or Apple product?

I was waiting for the 5T or the Mate 10 pro, but it’s so hard to source one.

Me too, I was also interested in the u11+ but that was another phone we got overlooked on.

Hopefully this is just a Nov launch list and we get it in December.

Other than that, all we can do is hope Optus has good deals on the 10 Pro.

As someone who got the 5 late into the soft launch I’m pretty disappointed as I would of waited for the 5t
Next yeah I guess I’ll wait for the 6t as this seems to be their trend now

I’m happy with my OP5 and prefer the finger print sensor on the front. I do wish OP would sell a proper Aussie power adaptor here though.
