There’s not a lot to get excited about when it comes to tablets these days, but they do keep coming. Huawei’s MediaPad series is a stalwart, so it’s unsurprising to see that a new MediaPad is in the works.
The details – the scarce ones that have shown up – are outlined in the User Agent Profile files, the descriptors which give basic information about the device. There’s not much available but there’s a few tidbits there.
The UAProf outlines thre models of MediaPad are coming, model #s: SHT-AL09, SHT-W09 and CMR-AL09. This may refer to the countries being targeted, and also the difference between a MediaPad M4 and possibly a MediaPad M4 Lite version. All three UAProf files outline a device with a screen resolution of 2560×1600, and all three list Oreo as the Operating System – likely with EMUI 8.0 over the top.
Speculation on processor seems to lean towards either the Kirin 960, or the more powerful Kirin 970 as used in the Huawei Mate 10 series that was recently released. The big speculation is on the RAM and storage, with the previous M3 model launching with 16GB storage and 1GB RAM which has been widely derided. We’d love to see at least 2GB RAM (preferably 4GB) and at least 32GB (preferably 64GB) with a microSD card slot as well.
No official announcements have been made, but with Mobile World Congress a mere two months away we may see them soon.
