As we’re getting ready for another wild CES in Las Vegas it seems LG has decided (wisely) to get ahead of the pack and release some news. They have announced two new Google Assistant-powered speakers, a 5.1.2 Soundbar and traditional ‘can’ speaker.

The SK10Y soundbar is a fully featured “5.1.2” Dolby Atmos speaker system. We don’t have a lot of details yet but we do know that it has a combined power of 550W and features Chromecast and Google Assistant. According to the press release: “Simply say “OK Google” and your request to begin playing your favourite song, podcast or audio clip from your favourite online streaming service”.

Being a soundbar those 5.1.2 speakers won’t be dedicated speakers, like most sound bars it will “bounce” sound to create surround effect. All that aside Dolby Atmos coming to a sound bar is a big deal and having it inside a Google Assistant powered one is even cooler.

The LG ThinQ Speaker is a more traditional-looking ‘smart speaker’ with a round design, minimal buttons on top and the ever poplar assistant logo up top. We don’t have any more details about this device, however it’s a safe bet that it should be more ‘powerful’ that the original (or mini) Google Home devices.

While specifics of prices, relate dates and release countries (I put Australia down for even odds of getting this) aren’t out yet hopefully we won’t have long to wait for the final reveal at CES in just a few short weeks. Until then strap in, this is just the beginning of nerdvana!
