The Google Pixel 2 XL has had a rocky start to its existence. Despite the “issues” that it has had so very much publicised it is still regarded by many as the best phone available, including myself. The original price of the Pixel 2 XL had many baulking at a purchase but now you can grab one on the cheap(er) from JB Hi-Fi.

Until February 1 JB Hi-Fi have $350 off the standard price of the Pixel 2 XL — both the 64GB and the 128GB version and in both available colours. The prices are now:

  • Google Pixel 2 XL 64GB $1399 now $1049
  • Google Pixel 2 XL 128GB $1549 now $1199

While this is still not cheap if you are in the market for a new smartphone and normally buy a flagship you cannot go wrong with this phone in my opinion. It has the best smartphone camera available on the planet and the best software experience bar none.

So if you have been waitng for the Pixel 2 XL price to drop before pulling the trigger why not head on down to JB Hi-Fi before next Thursday and grab one at a reduced price.

Sadly, this discount seems to have been pulled before getting close to 1st Feb… on the JB HiFi website, the Pixel 2 XL 128GB is back at $1549 now 🙁

Promotion ended yesterday apparently. However, the Pitt St store still honoured the price for me. Also, when they handed it over, it was bundled with a Google Home Mini, and some Pipe headphones.

Doesn’t seem to exist any more?

This is a premium handset that I have enjoyed using since I picked it up.

The camera is truly ground breaking, battery life is great, smells updates mean there’s little worry that you experience with other main steam models.

There’s plenty of these available on Gumtree for way under this money most of which come with warranty paperwork.

Only criticism is its slight to tall.

Glad I got on the original Family and friends Telstra deal. Pixel 2, 15gb data! $59 a month.

GregM

I’d love one, but I just can’t.
I can’t spend that much on a phone that I’ll probably replace in a year.

I bought one today, so far I’m very impressed….

Lol what the hell those prices are still ridiculous! Google hasn’t had it right since the Nexus 5…

Daniel Tyson

It’s widely acknowledged – though never by Google (at least publicly) – that the Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 were heavily subsidised by Google. That’s no way to run a hardware division.

Jack Bauer

I meant the price point / specs that the Nexus 5 had.

Daniel Tyson

Exactly. The phone was subsidised by Google to hit those specs at that price point. They cannot do this again if they want to succeed as a hardware company.

Jack Bauer

I don’t know much about this kinda stuff but from what I know, with the Nexus 5, LG did all the hardware and Google did all the software.

Obviously Google would’ve had to pay LG, but now with the Pixel phones its mostly made by Google now right? (I heard something about HTC being involed)

Daniel Tyson

The Nexus 5 was LG Built with input from Google, though the Nexus program was usually based off an existing design from the company. The Pixel program is generally thought to be Google design from the ground up, though personally I think they’re still getting there. The Pixel 3, now that Google has all those HTC phone staff in-house should be a more completely ‘Google’ design, though obviously HTC will be in charge of the tooling and manufacture process. Put simply, the Pixel 2 was built by HTC with input in design from Google. The Pixel 2 XL was built… Read more »

That’s about what I paid for my Note 8. More reasonable price point. I hear that newer pixel 2 xl have improved screens.

Peter

What about it’s little brother. No love for the smaller hands.

Oldmike

That is a slightly almost more sensible price for the pixels xl , about another 300 ish off that and it will almost be a consideration for me 🙂 .
i look at other phones like the sony xz premium $ 999,
the huawei mate 10 $ 899 ,
even the little nokia 8 with similar hardware at $ 699 , all with pretty decent cameras , headphone jacks and sd card , i couldnt look at a pixel .
it is a good discount if you like the pixels though .

Chris

Well said. Whilst they produce an average premium handset but price at Apple ripoff prices they can go jump.
Sick to death of Google beta products where nothing is complete nothing is polished and always issues.
