At Mobile World Congress later this month, LG has confirmed they will announce a 2018 edition of the V30 rumoured to be named the V30s. On-board will be a new generation of phone AI tied to their previously announced ThinQ AI platform.
The new AI components of the LG UX which will be included on the V30 2018 Edition will include Vision AI and Voice AI which will ‘deliver a unique and more intuitive user experience, focusing on the camera and voice recognition’.
The Vision AI component is similar to that which we first saw on the Huawei Mate 10/Mate 10 Pro with the camera recognising objects or situations and adjusting the camera settings to suit. There will be 8 modes included in Vision AI: portrait, food, pet, landscape, city, flower, sunrise, and sunset. LG says they collaborated with a partner to analyse 100 million images in order to bring the best settings for each mode, with Vision AI taking into account ‘angle of view, color, reflections, backlighting, and saturation levels’.
In addition to shooting modes, LG says that the Vision Assistant will also be able to ‘automatically scan QR codes, initiate an image search or provide shopping options including where to purchase the item for the lowest price and other similar products that the customer might find of interest’.
With Voice AI LG is extending their existing partnership with Google and the integration of Assistant to LG UX adding nine more exclusive commands to Assistant. Last year, LG and Google added 23 commands to Assistant to let users simply say ‘Ok Google…Take a picture on a wide angle, Take a selfie on a wide angle, Record a video on a wide angle’ and more.
LG says that the AI components being added will not be limited to new models, with existing models set to receive updates as well.
Regarding the new AI announcements, Ha Jeung-uk, senior vice president and business unit leader for LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company said
As we communicated last month at CES, the future for LG lies in AI, not just hardware specs and processing speeds. Creating smarter smartphones will be our focus going forward and we are confident that consumers will appreciate the advanced user experience with the enhanced V30 that many have been asking and waiting for.
We’ll be at LG’s Mobile World Congress presser later this month, so tune in to find out about what they’ll have on offer.
I seriously thought about buying the V30 late last year but didn’t because it was not available on a carrier plan, however this is likely to annoying those who did having an upgrade come out so soon.
Thanks LG, but how about you update last year’s flag ship. G6 not getting any oreo love
