The Huawei P20 Pro is one of the most exciting handsets we’ve seen so far this year, with an impressive Triple Leica Camera setup on the rear which has been impressing us in all lighting conditions. The team at iFixit has gotten their hands on the phone and torn it down to see what makes it tick.
Most phones these days aren’t really designed to be repaired, and the Huawei P20 Pro is no different with iFixit awarding it a pretty low score of 4 out of 10. The low score is due to a number of factors, but the dual front and rear glass on the handset makes cracking it a distinct possibility. To replace the screen requires extra effort as well, with iFixit finding at least two layers of adhesive in the way, and quite a bit of disassembly required. The battery too is also time consuming.
On the positive side, once you’re inside the phone casing and through the adhesive, a lot of the parts – like the triple Leica camera module are replaceable modules.
There’s no launch dates, or pricing for the P20 Pro in the Australia market as yet – and Jason is working on the review which shouldn’t be too far away. The camera chops on this phone are truly remarkable so we do recommend checking it out when it does arrive.
