Amazon are a behemoth that is for sure but only arrived with their online shopping store in Australia last year. At that early stage they had only one fulfilment centre for the entire country in Melbourne. Now due to a growing customer demand they are opening up a new fulfilment centre in Sydney.

The new fulfilment centre — in the Goodman Centenary Distribution Centre in Moorebank, South West Sydney — will be a 43,000 square metre facility and provide easy access to both the M5 and M7 freeways. Not only will this provide much easier and faster access to Amazon’s goods for those in that part of the world but also provide a large number of jobs for the area.

We are thrilled to be establishing our next fulfilment centre in Sydney and working with incredible people in the local community around Moorebank. Sydney represents another important development for our growth strategy in Australia, following a steady and progressive increase in customer demandRobert Bruce, Amazon Australia Operations Director

The additional fulfilment centre will allow Amazon to meet current customer demands as well as future demand as well as well as providing faster shipping of products. Not only will customers benefit but Amazon see small and medium-sized Australian businesses who sell on Amazon benefiting in the ability to have greater access to customers all over the country.

The new Sydney fulfilment centre with commence operations in the second half of this year and if Amazon continue to grow it will no doubt be joined by more in the future.

Don’t use Amazon Australia as pricing is higher if available on ebay. Plus, they would be lucky to carry 10% of Amazon US stock. Waste of time coming here.

Yeah. I have bought stuff, both third party and Amazon stuff. I think shipping times have been fine, of course that’s probably more on Australia Post. But I think some third party stores were a bit slower in processing and getting to shipping the order…not heaps slower probably just an extra day but slower nonetheless.

“Have you bought anything from Amazon Australia? Were you happy with the speed of the service Amazon provided?” Speed is reasonable *if the product is in stock*. I have ordered an i-Blason case with a built-in screen protector. It’s one one the highest ranking cases for Samsung S8/Plus phones. It’s priced *the same* as US! However, it’s got a defect: discoloration in the middle of the screen. This is not a common problem judging by Amazon US reviews. I tried to return it, however, unlike in US, replacement isn’t available. So, I have to return it *at my own cost*… Read more »

As most have recognised, Amazon can only really be considered to have launched in Australia when they stop acting mainly on behalf of 3rd party Australian merchants (with their overpricing), but start selling most products themselves, at reasonable, global, prices.

eg Toshiba 6TB X300 = $150 on AmazonUS, $434 on AmazonAU

At the moment nobody is going to take them seriously or order from them.

Oh, and they need to have their full product range too.
