After announcing their new range of budget friendly handsets at an event in São Paulo, Brazil last month, Motorola Australia has today revealed their plans for bringing the phones to Australia.
The Moto G6, G6 Play and G6 Plus, as well as the Moto E5 will be arriving on June 7th, in-store through the usual channels, as well as online through the Motorola website.
Hardware
As you’ve seen, this time around Motorola will be bringing the entire range of Moto G6 handsets to Australia, the reasoning behind this move is that the Moto G line is their most popular line here in Australia. Motorola has cut down on the amount of SKUs available this time around, with a single memory configuration for each model being made available and they’ve also cut down on the range of colours being launched here in Australia.
Qualcomm Snapdragon processors power the entire Moto G and Moto E range, with different levels of processor powering the individual models. Differences in construction also differentiate the models, with the Moto G6 Plus and Moto G6 featuring 3D Glass rears, dual rear camera sensors (12MP + 5MP) and a USB Type C connector, while the Moto G6 Play and Moto E have a single 13MP rear camera sensor and use plastic construction with a microUSB connector.
Software
In terms of software, all the Motorola handsets will be arriving with Android 8.0 (Oreo) on board. Regular security updates will be delivered to the phones on a quarterly basis to keep them up to date and protected from the ills of the world.
In terms of platform updates there are no solid dates from Motorola on how long the phones will be supported in terms of platform updates, but they did point to the Oreo update which rolled out yesterday to the Moto Z – a now 2-year old phone.
