After announcing last week that the Virgin Mobile brand would be phased out over the next two years, Optus has today expanded on their plans for transitioning existing Virgin Mobile customers over to the Optus network.

While the announcement has been made that the Virgin Mobile brand will be phased out over the next two years, Optus says that they will continue to connect new Virgin Mobile customers and upgrade existing users until the 15th of June. For Virgin Mobile customers wanting to stay, Optus will offer ‘specially tailored plans’ for those customers to use after Virgin Mobile closes its doors in Australia.

Ben White, Optus Managing Director, Marketing & Product, said ‘As they are already connected to the Optus network, Virgin Mobile customers can continue to use their service in the same way they always have. To aid in the transition, We have a special transition plan in place to make sure the impact to customers is minimal, and the experience they have during this time is a positive one’.

Optus has launched a transition website to help users affected by the closure of the Virgin Mobile brand. The Transition page contains offers for people on Post and Pre-Paid mobile plans, as well as Mobile Broadband plans.

Virgin Mobile retail stores will begin closing their doors shortly, with Optus intending to point customers to nearby Optus retail locations who will be prepared to ‘provide service to any Virgin Mobile customers seeking in-store support’. Optus has previously advised that they will look at re-deploying Virgin Mobile staff within the Optus infrastructure after discussions with individual staff.

Optus appears to be making efforts to ensure the transition is as smooth as possible. For Virgin Mobile customers, head over to the transition website and enter your details so you can see your offer.
