Last year gaming accessory maker, Razer, announced a new gaming focused high-end smartphone after earlier in the year buying Nextbit, makers of the Robin smartphone. The Razer Phone has been used and reviewed worldwide and from tomorrow Australians will be able to purchase one locally.
This evening Razer has announced that they will be bringing the Razer Phone to Australia, and surprisingly you will be able to get your hands on one tomorrow. From the JB Hi-Fi website you will be able to pick one up from the 30th June (yes, tomorrow) for $1099. From Tuesday the 3rd July you will also be able to pick one up from Razer.com.
The Razer Phone will be exclusively available in retail with JB Hi-Fi through their website and the first 60 customers who purchase the Razer Phone from JB Hi-Fi will receive a bonus pair of Razer Hammerhead USB-C in-ear headphones.
The Razer Phone is one of the most powerful smartphones available with it packing a Snapdragon 835 SoC, 8GB of RAM and 64GB of storage with a microSD card slot too. A 4,000mAh battery with support for Quick Charge 4.0 is powering the phone. The big advantage this phone has over others for gaming is the Sharp produced 120Hz IGZO LCD panel which utilises Qualcomm’s QSync technology. That higher refresh rate makes for smoother gaming.
The phone comes with dual rear 12MP camera sensors – 1x wide angle with an f/1.75 aperture and the other a 2x zoom telephoto lens with an f/2.6 aperture which was quite disappointing when first released but by all reports has been improved immensely since its release.
There are dual front-facing speakers which are Dolby ATMOS certified and a THX-certified USB-C audio adapter which includes a 24-bit digital audio convertor (DAC) to guarantee quality sound with your favourite headphones. But, for those same audiophiles there’s no 3.5mm headphone jack either — hence the offer for the USB-C headphones being something worth considering.
If you have been considering purchasing a gaming phone or if you love your gaming then this is something you should definitely consider, and now at least you can buy one locally. Hopefully we can get a review unit in hand to check out its ins and outs.
Jesus, thats a long time from release to availability here in Oz. IF I was into gaming on mobiles, and I’m not, I think would get the ASUS gaming phone instead. It may only have a 100Hz screen, but the cooling system looks superior.
$1,099 for a 835…
How about adding on an extra $100 for the Nokia 8 Sirocco, which similarly runs the 835 for $1,199
