After Google quietly launched a dark mode for Android Messages last week, then pulled it less than a day later, the feature has returned in the latest update.

The new app version – 3.5.052 – is rolling out to users now through Google Play (or APKMirror if Google is too slow) and all it takes is for you to download it, and run it – although I had to force close it and clear the app cache as pointed out by Artem from Android Police, before the ‘Enable Dark Mode’ option showed up in the three dot menu.

The design has remained the same as when it rolled out last time, with a blue floating action button to start a new chat, and a fairly dark background with grey message bubbles for your chat partners, and light blue for your chat bubbles.

If you lamented the loss of dark mode on Android Messages last week then this update should make you happy.
