After appearing on the Lenovo Australia website on Monday, the Lenovo Smart Displays are now available for pre-order in Australia as of today.
The Smart Displays are available in two sizes, an 8-inch 1280×800 resolution model for $299, or a 10.1-inch 1920×1200 resolution model for $399. Both Smart Displays are powered by a 1.8GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 2GB of RAM and come with 4GB of on-board storage. A front mounted 5MP camera (with a manual cover switch for privacy), dual microphones and a 10W speaker are included allowing for video playback or video conferencing with Google Duo.
The Smart Displays are slightly different in appearance with the 8″ model available in a stylish Grey/White, while the 10.1″ model comes in White/Bamboo.

Lenovo says the Smart Displays will have a lead time of 10-15 days for shipping from the Lenovo website, while JB Hifi is offering both 8″ model and 10.1″ model same price though with a pre-order bonus of a Google Home Mini if pre-ordered before the 19th of October.
Smart Displays are powered by the Android Things platform which was launched from Beta just prior to Google I/O this year. Google has been updating Google Assistant with more visual aspects including the ability to watch YouTube videos and Cooking demos, as well as checking the weather forecast, and checking your Google Photos feed and lots more.
You can check them out at JB Hifi, or head over to the Lenovo website and pop either an 8-inch model or 10-inch model in your cart now.
What’s the difference between a smart display and a tablet? Other than the casing and speaker, aren’t they the same thing?
This is a whole new category of device, so it’ll be very interesting to see how they go in the market.
These Lenovo devices – which feature cameras for video calls – will be better than Google’s own devices – which according to rumour have no camera. I predict video calling will be one of the main uses for smart screens.
