When Qualcomm announced its new Snapdragon Wear 3100, we knew that Montblanc was going to being the first manufacturer to use the new processor. Today, Montblanc has announced the new Summit 2 starting at $995 USD, making it one of the more expensive Wear OS devices.
Regardless of the premium pricing, we hope that the Summit 2 will give us a good indication of the kind of specs we can expect to see from Wear OS smartwatches going forward.
Summit 2 includes a Snapdragon Wear 3100 processor (of course), 1GB RAM, 8 GB of storage, a 42 mm “unisex” case design and a 1.2-inch AMOLED display with sapphire crystal glass.
Feature-wise, Montblanc has included NFC for Google Pay, GPS, a heart rate sensor and magnetic charging as well as the standard Bluetooth 4.2 and WiFi b/g/n.
With both a digital crown and two programmable buttons, it’s great to see the full Wear OS interaction options being rolled out to more devices.
With a 340mAh battery, Montblanc claims a full day of battery life in “smartwatch mode” (we assume this means with always on display activated), but in ‘time only mode’ you’ll get 3-4 days. “Time only mode” could be good to get a bit more distance out of your device when you don’t have access to your charger.
The outer case comes in two materials either single or two tone stainless steal, or an even-more-premium titanium model that starts at $1,230 USD and weighs 49G instead of 62G.
Montblanc is offering leather, silicone and Milanese style bands, but the watch uses a standard 22mm interchangeable band so you should be able to use your own if you don’t like the one in the box.
Summit 2 will launch with the latest version of Wear OS, including the new swipe-focused UI that has been seen as a massive improvement over the old UI as it’s rolled out to existing watches.
We’re waiting to hear whether Summit 2 is heading to our shores, and will update as needed.

Gosh, a whole day of battery life. That new chip is really having an impact.
The specs & styling are appealing but I struggle to justify that level of spend on a smartwatch even though i’d happily spend much more on a automatic.
