After Android Pie was released over a month and a half ago, the adoption rate by manufacturers has been improved. While One Plus has begun rolling out Android 9.0 (Pie) to the OnePlus 6, the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 5 are still waiting. Now it seems the update could take a little while longer – but good news, the OnePlus 6T will launch running Pie.
Pete Lau, OnePlus CEO, has taken to Chinese Social media site Weibo to advise on the update for the two older OnePlus handsets in response to a question from a OnePlus fan. According to Lau (via GizmoChina), the update is taking longer than expected because OnePlus engineers ‘still need more time to come up with the update and appealed everyone to understand the situation’.
If the delayed update is too much for users, then the impending launch of the OnePlus 6T on October 30th could be a good time to check out a new phone with Lau also advising that the phone will run Android 9.
The base of Android 9 (Pie) on the OnePlus 6T will be married up with the gesture UI that the company spoke about last week, as well as the faster UI and touch response.
In terms of when the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 5 will get Pie it’s anyone’s guess. OnePlus have not had the greatest of records rolling out updates to their older devices, so fingers crossed this is merely a small delay.
Pie sucks. Keep Oreo.
