For sports loving Australians, a sport streaming service is the holy grail and that appears to be what Kayo Sport from Foxtel appears to be, and it’s now live with dedicated mobile apps in tow.
The service is Foxtel’s latest attempt to get content before your eyes, though as with services like Foxtel Now, the Kayo Sport service does away with the requirement for a satellite or cable box and just streams it to your mobile device or web browser.
Backed by Foxtel Sport you’ll find over 50 sports ranging from your entire summer of cricket consisting of the Big Bash, Twenty20, One-Day Internationals, Tests and of course the Sheffield Shield, through to Baseball, Squash, Tennis, Basketball, MMA, NFL and loads more, all available to stream in HD quality at your convenience.
The apps and browser playback offer many options including replays, and a new Spoiler mode which gives you the option to login to the website or app, and then get to your game without seeing any scores, results and keeping you spoiler free.
You can experience Kayo Sport through a 14 day free trial with up to three simultaneous streams, but then you’ll pay either $25 per month for Basic (2 streams), or $35 per month (3 streams).
Kayo Sport is available on to stream in Chrome, Safari and Firefox browsers on Mac and PC desktops and laptops, or through mobile apps for Android and iOS. Chromecast is available from browsers and from the mobile apps, though feedback in Google Play shows there are some kinks to work out on the Android app at least. There’s also a Telstra TV app coming as well if that’s your jam, but no mention of Android TV.
If you want to sign up for a free trial you can head to kayosports.com.au to check it out.
Any reason why it says “Available on Chromecast Ultra and above only” on their website when you click on the Chromecast icon?
Has anyone tried to Chromecast using a bog standard gen 1, 2 or 3?
Cheers
I tried it on gen 1 Chromecast, forget it, unwatchable. Treated myself to an Ultra and plays great.
I’m amazed the stream isn’t capable of downscaling bit rate or frame rate to accommodate gen 1, 2 or 3 Chromecasts.
I’d love to try the service but I’m not going out to spend $200 on a couple of Ultras to replace my gen 2 and 3 Chromecasts that work perfectly on all others services because the app developers aren’t capable of supporting them. Ahh well, I wonder how many complaints they’ll get on this issue .
Cheers
Used this app to watch India – Australia T20. Works perfectly in Android phone and was able to chromecast it to my VodafoneTV ( Android box). Would have preferred Cricket to be Live and Free on 7, but for $25 this is the cheapest option available as yet.
Cricket fans like myself will not let this pass.
Another money grab for FOXTEL, what an absolute joke that they expect subscribers to now pay more. I will be cancelling my foxtel subscription based on this
I think this was Foxtel’s way of giving access to sport in a cheaper way than what you currently pay. It’s a good news story.
The description of the app on play store that Android tv is coming.

Experience a new way to watch your favourite sports live on Android™ powered tablets & mobiles with Android OS Marshmallow through to Oreo, with Android TV coming soon.
Will not be taking this up on the principle that she on the anti-syphoning list should remain on free-to-air. I’m looking at you Cricket Australia!
I send an enquiry about the Android TV app and got a response that it would be released towards the end of the year alongside the Telstra TV app.
