YouTube has today announced that they’ve begun offering a special discount rate for access to their recently launched YouTube Premium and YouTube Music Premium services, at least in the US.
YouTube will offer students access to YouTube Music Premium for $4.99 per month offering ad-free access to their music library, background playback and ability to download music for offline playback.
Students will also have the option to signup to the full YouTube Premium service for $6.99 per month which gives users access to the YouTube Music Premium service as well as ad-free videos, background playback and access to their range of YouTube Original series including Cobra Kai, Impulse and the new Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy) sci-fi series Origin.
YouTube has a special sign up fee offering access to YouTube Premium for $5.99 per month (ongoing) for students who sign up before the 31st of January 2019.
YouTube has said that they plan to roll out the student discount for YouTube Music Premium and YouTube Premium to more countries ‘in the future’. At this stage, Australians pay $11.99 per month for YouTube Music Premium, or $14.99 per month for the full YouTube Premium service. The discounted rates in the US are 50% off their full priced alternatives, so we’d be hoping for a similar discounted rate if/when they launch the student discount here in Australia.
