After the leak last week from a Play Store listing showing that Google was planning a revamp of the ringtone, notification, and alarm sound experience on their ‘Made by Google’ devices which included visualisations and downloadable ringtones coming as part of an unspecified update, it would seem that this update has now begun rolling out for Google Pixel owners overnight.
The update, now named Sounds 2.0, revamps Pixel’s ringtone, default notification sound along with the default alarm sound menus within the phone settings menu giving it a new interface. The new look sounds menu lists your current or default selection in a “Currently set” section, with an accompanying visualisation for the background.
There are six categories in the Phone Ringtone and Default Notification settings: My Sounds, Pixel Sounds, Classical Harmonies, Minimal Melodies, Reality Bytes and Retro Riffs. The Default Alarms Notification has only two of these selections: My Sounds and Pixel Sounds. Each sound takes a second to download before you can preview it, so it seems you need an active network connection to play around with this.
As you can see, Google is using their new Pastel colour palette for the new Pixel Sounds interface, with the cloud-like animation at the top of each section based on similar wallpapers rolled out with the Pixel 3 phones.
The app is currently rolling out slowly, though the actual app isn’t visible in the Google Play Store. If you absolutely must have it right now though, you can of course side-load it from APK Mirror.
