Huawei’s P20 Pro set a record for it’s camera DxOMark score last year, a score that is still yet to be beaten even by its younger sibling, the MAte 20 Pro. All eyes are trained on Huawei to see how they fare with this year’s camera setup in the P30 and P30 Pro. Today we have gotten a look at the camera setups that Huawei hope will keep them ahead of the challengers.

MyDrivers has revealed some renders of the P30 and P30 Pro from case manufacturer Cubz. The new renders do not reveal a terrible lot but do show/confirm the rear camera setup of both phones.

The P30 appears to have a teardrop notch as expected and on the rear there is a triple Leica camera setup with the main camera expected to be a 40MP lens which supports 5x optical zoom. There is no fingerprint sensor on the rear suggesting that Huawei will place the fingerprint sensor/button on the front once again or will move their in-display fingerprint sensor to the standard model this year. The renders are too dark to discern either way.

The P30 Pro appears to have the more traditional notch which implies better face detection and more secure face unlock processes. It is a fairly safe move by Huawei with many manufacturers expected to try and remove or at least shrink the notch this year.

The rear of the P30 Pro shows a quad camera setup with three of the lenses the usual Huawei triple camera setup and the fourth camera will be a 3D ToF sensor. The 3D ToF sensor can be used for 3D facial recognition and 3D modelling. The P30 Pro main sensor is expected to be sony’s 38MP IMX607 sensor which can support 10x optical zoom — it remains to be seen if Huawei will make use of all that optical zoom functionality.

If they follow the same timeline as last year, Huawei will announce the P30 lineup after MWC next month. As per usual we like to cover all phones that are relevant to Australians so you can be sure we will be keeping a close eye on this one, seeing if Huawei can improve on their already best-in-class smartphone camera.
