Last week we reported that Google’s upcoming mid-range were going to be called the Pixel 3a and the Pixel 3a XL according to Android Q source code. Today a source familiar with the phones has confirmed this.
9to5Google have been told by a source that the new Pixel phones will be called the 3a and the 3a XL and will have a 5.6 inch and a 6 inch display. Along with that these phones will come in the standard Clearly White and Just Black and also a third unknown colour to increase mass appeal.
The CAD renders that gave us the dimensions late last year are also spot on the money according to the source although the display sizes are slightly out.
Other specs for the Pixel 3a confirmed by the source include a 5.6 inch display with a resolution of 2220 x 1080 pixels (440dpi) along with a Snapdragon 670, 4GB of RAM, an 8MP wide-angled front-facing camera and a 12MP rear camera. The Pixel 3a battery is expected to be just 3,000mAh and be charged with 18W fast charging through it’s USB-C port.
The mid-range devices will include much of the features included in the standard premium version of the Pixel 3 including Active Edge, a Titan M security chip, eSIM and both will have 64GB of storage.
The cameras are said to be as good as the Pixel 3 images but the camera app is said to have poorer performance.
It is unclear whether this will make it to our shores but we certainly hope it does. The people who can get their hands on decent Android devices the better.
