The race is on. Telstra have a limited (>200 5G towers though) 5G network ready to go but no phones to operate on it. Telstra have said to Ausdroid that they will not be waiting for all manufacturers to be ready- the first phone that is ready will get placed straight onto the network first.
Samsung are racing to be first with the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G and news out of South Korea today is that the Galaxy S10 5G will be available to the public on April 5.
There will be no pre-order for the Galaxy S10 5G and pricing has not yet been announced but we would expect it to cost even more than the Galaxy S10+. Keep in mind though that Aussie’s who have purchased a Galaxy S10+ from Telstra will get a free upgrade to the Galaxy S10 5G when it is available.
It is unclear when the phone will make it into Australia for Telstra but carriers in the US are expecting it not far behind the South Koreans. Once it is ready you would expect Telstra to run, rerun and run again it through a myriad of testing to make sure it operates as desired. For a new network it would be disastrous to not function correctly at launch.
The Galaxy S10 5G will arrive with a 6.7 inch display, 3D depth sensing camera on the front and back and, as you would expect on a 5G phone, a 4500mAh battery with support for 25W fast charging.
It will be interesting to see if Samsung hit the market first in Australia. I dare say that Telstra would want them to be first being the biggest Android vendor in Australia.
