Have you ever wanted to visit Mars, but just couldn’t figure out the logistics? Don’t feel bad, NASA feels the same way – but that doesn’t stop the curious scientific mind from wanting to prepare for such a trip.
To that end, scientists have been using Devon Island, an uninhabited island in Canada’s Arctic region, as a simulation base to prepare for potential future Mars missions. In order to share the Arctic Mars simulation love with the rest of us, Google has sent a Street View team out to the region to capture the islands.
Now if you want to explore the closest thing to Mars we have on earth but still can’t figure out the logistics to a remote, harsh and desolate corner of Canada then jump on over to Google Maps and check it out from your couch. There’s also a guided tour in Google Earth here.
