Dell has a long pedigree in windows laptops, and between their Alienware and Dell gaming brands they one of the top players in the PC gaming laptop space as well. This week at Computex 2019 in Taipei they announced a whole slew of new products, including some new gaming hardware.
Dell Gaming
The Dell G3 15 (3590) is Dell’s latest entry point into their gaming line up, with processing starting at an Intel 9th Gen Core i5 9300HQ processor, up to an NVIDIA GTX 1660Ti 6GB graphics card, 8 – 16GB of DDR4 RAM, more storage configurations than you can poke a stick at and with an 15.6-inch FHD display with up to 144Hz refresh the G3 15 is no slouch.
Even though this is a 15-inch device Dell has still managed to pack in a dedicated number pad, full-sized RJ45 Lap connector, 1 x HDMI 2.0, 1 x USB A 3.1, 2 x USB A 2.0, 1 x USB C with display support, a microSD card slot and a headphone/ microphone jack.
For many people who are looking to get gaming capabilities into their laptop without having to run Crysis, or Metro at 120 FPS on a 4K monitor with ultra settings, a device like this can be an affordable way to bring a little gaming prowess into their multi-use laptop.
And with the upgraded options this thing can be tricked out to be a solid gaming machine in its own right, I could see more than a few of these sneaking under Mum and Dads radar!
Alienware
This year dell unveiled two new Alienware devices at Computex, the Alienware m15 and Alienware m17 gaming laptops, and as you’d expect from Alienware they can be configured to be an extraordinary gaming rig.
Alienware m15 R2
The Alienware m15 is the smaller of the two devices but that by no means it’s any less powerful. The CPU can be configured from an Intel 9th gen Core i7 9300 all the way up to a Core i9 9980HK supported by either 8 or 16GB of DDR4 RAM. Graphics card wise there are Several configuration options starting with the new NVIDIA GTX 16 series card all the way up to an NVIDIA RTX 2080 8GB card utilising the thermally efficient Max-Q design.
The 15.6-inch display can be configured as a FHD display, with or without eye tracking and has a 4K option for those wanting all of the pixels out of their 15.6-inch display. Storage starts at a simple 256Gb M.2 SSD and tops out at an amazing 4TB RAID PCI m.2 configuration.
Port wise it’s packing 2 x USB A 3.1, 1 x USB A 3.1 Gen 1 with PowerShare, 1 x HDMI 2.0, 1 x Mini-display 1.4, 1 x Thunderbolt 3 with Display Port, 1 x compact RJ45, 3.5mm headset jack. The Alienware devices also include an Alienware Graphics Amplifier Port for adding an external graphics enclosure.
Alienware m17
The Alienware m17 is the big boy of the line featuring a 17.3-inch FHD display with the option or eye tracking for those who want it, the m17 doesn’t have a 4K option. The internals are the same as for the m15 with the same upgrade configuration options and features the same ports.
Dell Australia has confirmed that the Alienware m15 and m17 will hit our shores July 6th this year, we are still waiting to hear of the Dell Gaming G3 15 is headed our way.
When fully configured either the m15 or m17 would be one of the most capable gaming laptops on the market. We’ve got a bit of PC gaming in our blood here at Ausdroid, I can only drool at what a Core i9, RTX 2080 4K gaming laptop would be like to use. I might even install the Epiclaunhcer to try out the new Metro with a rig like that!
