After a false start from Amazon the other day when they accidentally listed the Moto Z4 for sale Motorola have today made the Moto Z4 official.

Via their blog Motorola have unveiled their new flagship smartphone, the Moto Z4.

The Moto Z4, by itself packs some decent mid-range specs arriving with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 675, 4GB of RAM and a 6.4-inch 1080P OLED display with in-display fingerprint sensor. There is 128GB of onboard storage — which seems to be a minimum these days — that can be extended via the microSD slot (up to 2TB).

The Moto Z4 has a 48MP rear camera which uses the Quad Pixel technology to capture 12MP images each time. The camera includes AI features, Night Vision Mode. The front-facing camera is a whopping 25MP shooter promising great photos in any lighting and is of course capable of the usual bokeh/portrait mode effects.

Powered along by a 3600mAh battery Motorola rate the battery life as “up to 2 days of battery life” which seems like a lot but possible under the right circumstances. Their TurboPower fast charging is also included to charge the battery fast.

Unsurprisingly the Moto Z4 will arrive with Android 9.0 Pie which Motorola say will be updated to Android Q in the future. As usual Motorola keep their Android skin nearly bare and the speed of their devices reflect this.

Moto Mods are still a thing

The Moto Z4 continues the Z-line tradition of supporting Moto Mods including a moto 360 camera capable of 4K 360 degree video with 3D audio. There is also an Amazon Alexa smart speaker mod, a gamepad, a Hasselblad camera mod (no word as to whether there is an updated version of this yet), and of course a battery extender. It would be nice if they brought their 5G Moto Mod here too, assuming it is compatible with our 5G network(s).

The mods are usually not included in the price of the Moto Z4 but keep any eye out for bonus deals if you are interested in this phone when it arrives here in Australia.

At this stage it is only available in the US from June 6 for US$499.99. As you saw the other day Amazon US have a Moto Z4 package that includes the moto 360 camera Moto Mod — hopefully that deal arrives here too.

We will let you know as soon as we hear anything from Motorola Australia regarding Australian availability and pricing.
