Much has been made of Huawei’s plight in recent times and its future is uncertain but one thing for sure is, they are going to continue to make some great hardware. The Mate 30 Pro is set to be a prime example of this according to the latest rumours.
Chinese site IT Home is reporting that the Mate 30 Pro will come equipped with an AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate — similar to that in the OnePlus 7 Pro. It will also arrive with a Kirin 985 CPU, Barong 5000 5G modem, a dual front-facing camera through a cutout (supposedly) with the rear camera continuing the quad camera setup with its specs unknown at this stage.
The big difference and surprise is the 90Hz display — Huawei in the last couple of years have been stepping up the displays they have included in their products with their older models topping out at 1080P. The 90Hz AMOLED, assuming it is also a 2k display, is one of the best available at the moment.
After you have used a 90Hz display (or 120Hz) everything else seems so janky and seems to stutter. Side by side the difference is night and day. The scrolling through apps is smooth on a 90Hz display but unfortunately it does use more battery power in doing so. OnePlus turn the 90Hz refresh rate down to 60Hz for some apps to save battery.
It is expected that Huawei will do something similar but they are also looking to improve their fast charge capabilities with 55W SuperCharge rumoured to be coming to charge the 4200mAh battery.
We are assuming that they have an early build of Android Q ready to go so if the US Government sanctions are not lifted before it’s release they can still release it with the latest version of Android. Only time will tell but it would be a big call for them to launch their entirely new OS, HongMeng on such a big ticket item.
