We’re fond of Huawei’s P30 Pro even if Trump isn’t, and it’s getting a few welcome new features in its latest software update.
You can find a detailed breakdown over at XDA Developers, but the take-home points are DC Dimming, lower latency in Bluetooth, some fixes to photo and video performance and security.
The DC Dimming feature should improve the display in low light at low brightness, where users have reported flickering of the LED lighting array. The change regulates the current used to power the LEDs to stop the flicker, and is also said to improve colour reproduction in the display under normal use.
Low latency Bluetooth reduces the lag on Bluetooth wireless audio connections. It’s something you’ll welcome if you’ve noticed the issue before.
The change log also mentions colour reproduction for photos, and fixes for video performance on the front-facing camera.
Finally, Huawei’s also improved fingerprint authentication, and lets you enroll a second face (not Mark Zuckerberg) for facial recognition.
Huawei has stepped up its game on software updates in the last couple of years. Our previous “no updates ever” whipping boy has become one of the best citizens of the update ecosystem, keeping pace with Google’s security patches and making regular updates to its apps.
The P30 Pro update, EMUI 9.1.0.178 is rolling out now. It’s yet to hit the device this article was written on, though.
Just got the 9.1.0.168 update tonight.
My P30 Pro is still on 9.1.0.153. Wondering when this will come out to Australian Huawei’s…
My next phone will be this beast!
What updates. Still on Dec patch. Using Mate 10 pro. My galaxy S7 is on March. Looks like there still the whipping post
