Who amongst us can’t remember the troublesome pocket digital pets of the 90’s? Tamagotchis were all the rage, perhaps not quite with those my age, but certainly those a bit younger were well into these toys 25 years ago.

In 2019, the virtual pet hasn’t evolved all that much in this case – today’s Tamagotchi is little different from the original release almost three decades ago, and though there have been many imitations released since, none are quite the same.

What do you get with a Tamagotchi in 2019? Well, you get a digital pet that you need to feed and play with regularly, otherwise it will get sick and eventually .. perish. Over time, if you keep your tamagotchi well fed and entertained, it’ll evolve from a juvenile to an adult form, and … that’s about it.

The new generation of tamagotchi were first discussed a couple of months ago, but from today on wards, they’re on sale at JB HiFi for $34 ea.

Want to grab your own? JB HiFi has four tamagotchi varieties on offer:

Will you be getting into some 2019 virtual pet keeping? I’d suggest it might be something better aimed at your kids… I know my son would love one (even though he’ll probably kill it). Better a virtual pet than a real one I guess!
