It feels like just yesterday when I wrote up the last round of big-screen TVs on sale at Aldi, and on looking back, it was only a couple of weeks ago. Well, 50-inches is great, but surely 58-inches is better, right?
Aldi seems to think so. In this week’s Special Buys, the German supermarket chain is offering a massive 58-inch 4K Ultra HD TV for just $499. As has become standard with large screen TVs, there’s a multitude of inputs including 4 HDMI ports, alongside the standard antenna connection, audio in and out, and even an optical connection.
Like other Aldi big screen TVs, there’s a built-in HD tuner and recorder, and you can play back media from a connected USB device. However, unlike your (typically much) more expensive Smart TVs, there’s nary a mention of any smart features here – there’s definitely no mention of Android TV or other smart interfaces.
Likely you’ll want to add a set top box (e.g. a Vodafone TV) or at least a Chromecast Ultra to make this a true centrepiece at your place.
While you’re buying a big new TV, why not a new gaming console to go with it? The Xbox One S from Microsoft continues the Xbox tradition, and this week, Aldi is selling the 1TB model for $299 bundled with Forza Horizon 4 and Fortnite (with some bonus content as well).
Besides being an Xbox, this also gives you a 4K UHD Blu-ray player which would be a welcome addition to a huge 58-inch TV, so if you’re setting up a new loungeroom, you could get everything you need in one place next week.
We keep an eye on Aldi Special Buys each week for good stuff to grab. While your winter woolies and ski gear probably isn’t of much interest to the wider Ausdroid audience, Aldi’s tech specials usually are! If you spot a bargain that we’ve missed, let us know in the comments!
If you are a fan of tech and quality, Aldi is the last place you should be looking at. If you do want to buy a 58″ tv from a supermarket, by all means, please do but you get what you pay for.
Was looking at it and was considering it but a quick search on YouTube revealed a lot of issues with the Bauhn brand with screen flickers and what not. So you’re right, you get what you pay for 🙂
