As we consume more and more disposable technology it becomes ever-more important that those products are made sustainably, and it seems Google’s hardware team agrees as they move towards a greener hardware future. In a blog post today Google’s hardware arm has made a series of commitments to move towards a greener approach to hardware.
Google pledge to sustainability builds on their 2018 plan to move towards a more sustainable approach to technology and includes:
- By 2020, 100 percent of all shipments going to or from customers will be carbon neutral
- Starting in 2022, 100 percent of Made by Google products will include recycled materials with a drive to maximise recycled content wherever possible.
- And they will make technology that puts people first and expands access to the benefits of technology.
If the last one seems out of place in a green initiative and while we completely support any and all efforts that more towards technology being more accessible and assisting people living with disabilities it’s a long walk from that to a green outcome.
All of that aside it good to see big companies such as Google championing the green agenda, with so many climate change deniers propagating on the internet it’s important that as an overall society we don’t lose sight on these issues, even against the backdrop of consumer technology.

(apologies, there doesn’t seem to be a delete button for in-poor-taste comments)
I thought they looked tasty, like macarons.
