While we are all talking about Face Unlock and the issues Google seems to be having getting developers to adopt the new biometric process, WhatsApp has released its new fingerprint unlock in the latest update of the app for Android.
After firstly introducing the new fingerprint sensor unlock security feature in the beta version last night, WhatsApp has begun rolling it out to the stable version today. The new feature will require a user to unlock their messages with their fingerprint after automatically locking itself.
At this stage it can be set to lock either immediately, after one minute or after 30 minutes before requiring a fingerprint to unlock.
To enable it head into the settings of WhatsApp –> Account –> Privacy –> Fingerprint lock and toggle the unlock with fingerprint option. At this stage there is no Face Unlock option which would explain why they released it on the 31st of October.
According to XDA Developers, every app released or updated after November 1 will need to support Google’s new Biometric API.
If you are interested in checking it out ASAP and haven’t received the update just yet you can grab it from APK Mirror or you can simply be patient and wait for the update to roll out to your phone.
