OnePlus seem to be ramping up the hype for their smartphones early this year — assuming they stick to their May announcement dates of years gone past. Overnight the OnePlus 8 Pro appeared on Geekbench revealing some of the specs for the upcoming device.
The OnePlus 8 Pro, with the model number of GALILEI IN2023 will run Android 10 out of the box and once again be powered by the best Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset possible. The Snapdragon 865 (which means it will have 5G capabilities thanks to Qualcomm’s insistence that those packing must also include the X55 5G modem) will be clocked at 1.8GHz and partnered with 12GB of RAM.
OnePlus are known for releasing difference RAM versions of their devices so don’t take this as set in stone — there will most likely be a lower version at 8GB, although with three OnePlus 8 variants they may save the 8GB for one of the “lesser” models.
As for the actual Geekbench score for the device, if that really means anything anymore, its results are impressive with a single core test of 4296 points and 12530 for the multicore test.
It is possible that with all this hype building up OnePlus may look to announce their flagship smartphones earlier in the year but we doubt they will do that because if they do they’ve have to go up against the hype train of the Samsung S20 behemoth. Having their announcement later in March they can pretty much have fresh air all to themselves.
Time will tell and you can be sure we are in contact with OnePlus over any plans to release here in Australia — you can be fairly sure it would be very successful if they did.
