LG has announced that some of its Smart TV range will be getting an update that will see Apple TV pre-installed on them.
LG, which late last year started to add Apple’s AirPlay 2 and HomeKits to its smart TV range, stated during CES last month that it would add the full Apple TV app along with the video bits from iTunes to its current smart TV range. This will also include some of LG’s smart TV range launched back in 2018.
LG has confirmed that any of its 2019 OLED TVs or high-end NanoCell smart LCD TV’s will be getting a firmware update which will see the Apple TV added now, with “select” other LCDs (UM7X and UM6X series) getting access later this month.
Park Hyoung-sei, president of the LG Home Entertainment Company has said that:
“LG continues to offer the best home entertainment experience through technological innovations that support the delivery of high quality viewing and user convenience,” and that “By bringing the Apple TV app and Apple TV+ to even more TV models, we are once again demonstrating our determination to meet consumers’ needs and add value to our products.”
Originally, the Apple TV app was exclusively available on Samsung’s TVs, but in 2020 the app will become available to a much wider selection of TV screens and providers.
