Motorola has taken a few years off from the premium smartphone end of the market but has continued to have a strong presence at the mid-tier with their well-reviewed and received Moto G line. We have always thought that Motorola should be able to produce a great premium phone, because their mid range offerings are so strong.
It seems Motorola agrees with two new devices leaking out, a Snapdragon 865 powered flagship codenamed Burton which is expected to launch as the Motorola One 2020, and a upper / mid-tier device powered by the new Snapdragon 765 codenamed Racer which is expected to launch under the name Motorola One 5G 2020. To say this suggested branding is confusing would be an understatement, especially seeing as the more premium device isn’t being branded with 5G despite having a 5G modem included as part of the radio package?
Both devices are expected to ship with a Samsung-made 6.67-inch 2340 x 1080 pixel FHD curved display featuring a 90Hz refresh rate and a hole punch camera. There’s not a lot of other specs confirmed for either device at the moment, and what is leaked may not be accurate. It’s time for more salt, here’s what we think we know:
Burton | Racer | |
---|---|---|
Display | 6.67-inch FHD 2340×1080 90Hz AMOLED display | |
SoC | Snapdragon 865 | Snapdragon 765 |
RAM | 6-12GB | 6GB |
Storage | Unknown | 128GB |
Rear Sensor | Unknown | 48MP Primary |
Battery | 5169 mAh | 4660 mAh |
It feels a little to close to MWC for these devices to be launching there, but that would be a massive win for Motorola as the market has been a bit quiet in the lead up to the big Samsung reveal. Motorola may be able to capitalise on the MWC cycle if they can get these out the door by then.
