OnePlus are expected to reveal their 2020 flagship earlier than in previous years this year with rumours suggesting late March / early April. As such you would expect us to start seeing leaks appearing much more often, some are per usual from OnePlus themselves. Today’s leak comes not from OnePlus but from an online retailer, Giztop.
While we here at Ausdroid are not convinced these have all come from OnePlus themselves but are based on inferences, rumours, leaks and some information from OnePlus themselves.
OnePlus 8 Lite
The OnePlus 8 Lite looks set to be an Asia/India specific phone with a Mediatek 1000 processor, 8GB of DDR4 RAM and either 128GB or 256GB of UFS 3.0 storage. The triple rear camera will have a 48MP main camera, a 16MP wide-angled camera and a 12MP telephoto lens. The selfie camera will be a 16MP Sony IMX471 lens.
The display is expected to be a 6.4-inch AMOLED hole punch display of just 1080P resolution but will have a 90Hz refresh rate and in-display fingerprint sensor. The battery is also purported to be a 4,000mAh battery with support for Warp Charge 30T.
OnePlus 8
The OnePlus 8 will most likely be a worldwide (minus Australia) variant but of a mid to upper-range price. It will be powered by a Snapdragon 865 SoC and will house either 6GB, 8GB or 12GB of LGBPDDR5 RAM. The storage will once again be UFS 3.0 and be available in either 128GB or 256GB.
The rear camera looks set to be the same as the Lite version with 48MP, 16MP and 12MP lenses (I think the website had a typo) and the front camera a 32MP Samsung GD1 lens. The display is a step up with a 6.55-inch AMOLED hole punch display with a resolution once again of 1080P and a 90Hz refresh rate and in-display fingerprint sensor.
The battery is the same as that in the Lite version — 4,000mAh with Warp Charge 30T support.
OnePlus 8 Pro
The granddaddy of them all is of course the Pro version. This one will incorporate 6.55-inch AMOLED hole punch display with 2K resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate and an in-display fingerprint sensor. Powering this new display will be a Snapdragon 865 with 5G support.
The phone will be available in either 8GB or 12GB and have 128GB or 256GB of UFS 3.0 storage. The larger refresh rate of the display is a very good reason to increase the size of the battery which OnePlus have done. The 4,500mAh battery will support their new Super Warp charging (10V, 5A — 50W).
The cameras are also a step up with the rear cameras being 60MP main camera, 16MP wide-angled and 13MP telephoto lens. The front camera is also a step up with a dual lens system of a 32MP Samsung GD1 paired with a ToF 3D lens for better portrait images.
Many of the above specs are pretty obvious and have been seen elsewhere in various leaks. Whether these are full accurate specs or not remain to be seen and while we doubt they are we thought we’d bring to them and let you decide.
One thing we do know is that once again OnePlus will be making some of the best phones on the planet and now with a third more affordable version expect them to make inroads in countries such as India even more. If only they arrive on our shores this year — I am still hopeful but realistically think it is a bit of a pipe dream at this stage.
