Late last month Huawei told us that they were looking to bring their second generation foldable, the Mate Xs, to Australia but at the time pricing and time-frame were uncertain. Not anymore.
Huawei have today announced that from Saturday 14 March (this Saturday) the device can be preordered from JB-HI Fi, Mobileciti and the Huawei Authorised Experience store in Chatswood. It will then be available nationally from Thursday 9 April.
How much I hear you say. Well, for a foldable device with an 8-inch outwards folding display that when folded measures just 11mm, a foldable device that houses a Kirin 990 5G SoC, 8GB RAM, 512GB of storage and a quad camera setup with a 40MP main camera (wide-angle, f/1.8), 16MP ultra-wide angle camera (f/2.2), 8MP telephoto camera (f/2.4, OIS) and 3D Depth Sensing camera you would expect to pay a pretty penny — and you do.
The Huawei Mate Xs, sans the Google Play Store but with Huawei’s new AppGallery, will retail for a cool $3,999 and is available in Australia in only Interstellar Blue. At that price you also get a complimentary envelope leather case (valued at $199) and a VIP service to help you set up their new device.
We’re excited to bring the HUAWEI Mate Xs to Australia. Ideal for tech seekers or anyone who craves performance, design and usability. Australian consumers will benefit from an unprecedented, immersive experience, all at the touch of their fingertips. Offering large dual displays, ultra-slim foldable form and all-day usageLarking Huang, MD of Huawei Consumer Business Group in Australia
At a cool $3,999 you wouldn’t expect this to fly off the shelves but it may pay to try and get some hands-on time before forking out the required cash if you are seriously interested in purchasing this second generation foldable device.
I’m waiting for the Surface Duo!🤗
$4000….lol 😆 sorry I’m not selling a kidney to get one
G’day Scott,Huawei Xs Not much use without Google Play store and for that crazy price it seems more sensible to go for the upcoming Samsung foldable 7.3″inch with google
