Android Auto has been around on cars for five years now and is more uncommon not to have it but for motorbikes the presence is something new. Harley Davidson have made a statement today announcing that from next year certain models of their bikes will come with Android Auto compatibility.
The collaboration of Google and Harley Davidson has resulted in the availability of Android Auto for the motorcycle manufacturer’s bikes. Beginning next year, all Touring models sold with the Boom!™ Box GTS infotainment system will also have Android Auto compatibility making Harley Davidson the first motorcycle manufacturer to announce such compatibility.
Not only will the new models come equipped with Android Auto but there will be a simple, and seemingly free, upgrade pathway for existing Boom! Box GTS units with a basic USB update that users can perform themselves if they wish — beginning in the middle of this year. This is different to many car manufacturers who charge ridiculous prices for what is essentially a USB software update.
The wired system (wireless would be perfect for a motorcycle though your would think) features a 6.5-inch touch display protected with Gorilla Glass can also be installed into 2014-present Touring, Trike and CVO models that originally came equipped with the Boom! Box 6.5GT system.
Harley Davidson have also included an app of their own making to help “riders get the most out of their time on the road with features including recommended rides, ride planning, ride recording, riding challenges and the ability to find Harley-Davidson dealerships, gas stations, hotels, restaurants, motorcycle events and other attractions.”
If you own a Harley Davidson that is one of the above compatible models keep an eye out on the Harley Davidson website around the middle of the year for the software update to give your bike some Android Auto love.
