While society is disrupted by Coronavirous COVID-19 many young children are at home unable to access books at their school or attend story time sessions at their local library. Ausdroid is going to find and let you know about quality resources that help keep your young kids learning.
Today’s featured resource is the SAG-AFTRA (Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists) Foundation’s award-winning children’s literacy website, Storyline Online which streams videos featuring celebrated actors reading children’s books alongside creatively produced illustrations. Readers include Viola Davis, Chris Pine, Lily Tomlin, Kevin Costner, Annette Bening, James Earl Jones, Betty White and dozens more.
Reading aloud to children has been shown to improve reading, writing and communication skills, logical thinking and concentration, and general academic aptitude, as well as inspire a lifelong love of reading.
Storyline Online is available 24 hours a day for children, parents, caregivers and educators worldwide.
Each book on StorylineOnline includes learning tasks associated with the book developed by a teacher, aiming to strengthen comprehension and verbal and written skills for English-language learners.
For example this is The Tale of Peter Rabbit read by Australian actress Rose Byrne on Youtube and if you visit the resources page for that book on Storyline Online you’ll find a whole list of activities you can do with your children before, during and after listening to the book.
Storyline Online also has a Youtube Channel with all of it’s videos but you need to access their site to see the list of educational tasks to do before/during/after the video.
Storyline Online is a program of the SAG-AFTRA Foundation. The Foundation is a nonprofit organization that relies entirely on gifts, grants and donations to fund Storyline Online and produce all of its videos.
