With our Victorian friends entering the second period of lock down to stem the spread of COVID-19 in the greater Melbourne area Telstra has come forward again to try and provide some digital relief. What’s on offer? Unlimited internet data, unlimited phone calls for pensioners and extra mobile data.
Here’s the specifics. If you are a Telstra ADSL, NBN and Cable and live in the affected areas in Victoria Telstra will grant you, free of charge, unlimited free data until 21 August. This will be applied automatically to any customers in the affected postcodes.
For pensioners in the same area Telstra is offering unlimited local, national and 13/1300 calls and calls to Australian mobiles from their home phone in Australia. It is hoped that this will ease the strain of being cut off from family during this time.
On the mobile front post-paid customers on both mobile phone and mobile broadband plans can receive an extra 25GB of data on their plan to use in Australia within 30 days, and Telstra pre-paid customers who recharge with $40 or more can access an additional 10GB of data for use in Australia within 28-30 days (depending on their plan). Applications for more data will be accepted via the My Telstra app from Tuesday (we assume this means next Tuesday) until 21 August.
It’s easy to get cynical about these offers but here’s an idea, don’t. There would be many people who will benefit from this, and if you’re not one of them, why not try being happy for someone else.
