E Scooters are becoming more popular around Australia for commuters, with the introduction of a new range from Segway-Ninebot that’s sure to continue. The F Series increases your travel range through its regenerative braking system.
All models have a height range of 120 – 200 cm and a max weight of between 100 and 120kg for riders. The motors have power output between 250W and 350W, while speeds of 25kph and a range of up to 40km are possible. All four have a front and rear light for safety and visibility in day or night conditions. As you’d expect for a device like this that needs to stand up to the weather, they’re IPX5 so they’ll take a bit of rain but not a Melbourne downpour.
The Options
Carrying all of the features common to the series, the F20A is fast-folding, compact and easy to store. It has a 300W motor, capable of 25kph and a range of 20km. Beware though, there are a couple of limitations you’ll need to be aware of:
- The scooter is capable of climbing a maximum slope gradient of 10%
- A maximum rider weight of 100kg
The Segway-Ninebot KickScooter F20A is priced at $899.99 available through Panmi in late August.
The Segway Ninebot F25 is the second model in the series that carries a couple of upgrades over the F20A. The motor is capable of slightly more powerful, capable of scaling a 12% gradient thanks to its 300W motor. Priced at $899.00 and will be available through Panmi later in the year, date TBA.
Stepping up to the F30, we’re seeing a further increase in capability to scale hills at 15% gradient thanks to the 300W motor. Capable of 25kph and a starting range of 30km based on the battery storage. The F30 will set you back $999 and is available at JB Hi-Fi now.
Finally, the “big daddy” of the range is the F40A that has a more powerful 350W motor, propelling the rider at speeds of up to 30kph and an extended range of up to 40km. The F40A is the choice for bigger riders as it has a maximum rider weight of 120kg vs 100kg for the lower models. The extra power and carrying capacity will come at a cost though, the F40A will set you back $1,199.00 at JB Hi-Fi.

I sold our second car recently as I hardly used it and I have a Xiaomi M365 scooter that I use to travel to and from the train station. I also use it to zip to the shops and the bottleshop (it carries a carton nicely) and it’s very handy when dropping the car off for a service etc. The batteries are starting to fail in my scooter so perhaps the F40A would be a nice upgrade.

The F40A sounds like a fighter jet! I may see if I can get a test ride somehow – it’s hard to know if it’ll be cool and useful or annoying and lame just on paper
