Netflix has announced their somewhat anticipated gaming service today, what’s better is it’s free and exclusive to Android. This conclusively ends the argument over whether Android or iOS is better I think you would agree.
The new games will be available internationally in “many languages”, if your default language isn’t available it will default to good old English. The games will be available to all subscriber levels and will come with multi-device support, up to a limit, if you exceed your device limit you’ll be able to manage devices in-app.
Unfortunately, the new Games option isn’t live for most people in the bottom row of the app just yet, so if you are interested in playing one of the 5 release games keep spamming that Google Play update button. At launch the game titles include:
- Stranger Things: 1984
- Stranger Things 3
- Shooting Hoops
- Card Blast
- Teeter Up
The Netflix app will only act as an authentication service, the actual downloads and installation will all be managed via the Google Play Store. This may be a great model going forward for other apps and services to offer app stores on Android but still have the content security managed by Google.
