We’ve seen several times — starting in May last year — that Google Messages was preparing to roll out message categories.
The optional feature, according to Droid Life, is now rolling out with the latest (beta build 20220406_05_RC00) update to the Google Messages app. As previously outlined, your messages will automatically be separated based on content and 2FA messages will be deleted after a set period of time. While the update hasn’t yet landed on our devices, there is the chance this could be a server-side switch in a staged rollout. Once available you’ll have multiple tabs in your inbox: Personal, Business and All.
Whether this is a useful feature or not is going to depend greatly on your use case for SMS primarily. But with the continued development of Google Messages and RCS, it’s potentially an ace up the sleeve for Google moving forward.
