Google’s hardware team took the stage by storm today at Google I/O announcing, launching and showing off a broad range of hardware from almost every category, and earbuds were no exception. The latest iteration of the Pixel Buds is the Pixel Buds Pro, with active noise cancellation being the tent pole feature.
Available for pre-order on 21 July this year for $299 The pixel buds bring the same features we have come to expect from Pixel Buds, such as Google Assistant, live translation, seamless pairing and device switching and packages in active noise cancellation for the first time. The Bluetooth 5.0 buds include custom-designed 11mm dynamic drivers, three microphones and wind-blocking for better calls.
With IPx4 certification, you can’t take these swimming but you can certainly work up a sweat. Rated for 11 hours of audio playback or 7 hours with ANC turned on you can go a long time between charges with the includes Wireless charging case. The case carries up to 3 recharges for a total of 31 hours of playback time without ANC.
Controlling your earbuds is an important functionality decision the Pixel Buds Pro incorporates capacity touch sensors for tape and swipe gestures. Finding lost buds is also an important factor for those of us who misplace things. The Pixel buds include individual bud locations to make finding that missing device a little easier. It’s not clear if the case has location built-in would be an excellent feature.
The Pixel Buds Pro will go on pre-order for $299 on 21 July at the Google Store and select retailers in Charcoal (Black), Fog (White), Coral (pink) and Lemongrass (yellow).
