ASUS has announced the launch of the ZenFone 9, an updated compact Android smartphone that still packs a punch.
The ZenFone 9 comes with a 5.9-inch Samsung AMOLED display (2400 x 1080) that is said to offer 1100 nits of maximum brightness. The display also utilises Corning Gorilla Glass Victus alongside supporting always-on display features.
Under the hood, the ZenFone 9 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 Mobile Platform processor alongside Qualcomm Adreno 730 GPU. In terms of memory, the ZenFone 9 comes with either 8GB or 16GB of RAM and 128GB or 256GB of memory. Sadly memory cannot be expanded via a microSD card, so you will need to ensure you have enough cloud storage.
In terms of cameras, the ZenFone 9 comes with two rear cameras, which dominate the rear of the device, with a 50 MP Sony IMX766 flagship sensor for the main camera with the second camera being a 12MP Sony IMX363 ultra-wide sensor. The front-facing camera is a 12 MP Sony IMX663 flagship sensor.
The ZenFone 9 does come with 5G network connectivity and dual SIM capabilities. There is also WiFi 6/6E (802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax, 2×2 MIMO) and Bluetooth version 5.2. The ZenFone 9 also comes with IP65/IP68 water resistance
The ZenFone 9 runs Android 12 right out of the box, and it isn’t clear if and when Android 13 becomes available if the device will receive this upgrade, but we understand it’s likely. When it comes to the dimensions of the device, it comes in at 146.5 x 68.1 x 9.1 mm @ 169g.
The ZenFone 9 will come in Midnight Black, Moonlight White, Sunset Red and Starry Blue and will be launching soon, although exact availability and pricing will be launched closer to the launch date.
We currently have the ZenFone 9 on our review bench so it will be worth keeping an eye out for that when it becomes available.
In terms of readability why not stop using the term “in terms of”? Don’t need to replace it with anything.
Hi Alex, would you be able to test if VOLTE and VOWIFI support is available on the Zenfone 9 with the major carriers (Optus, Telstra, and Vodafone)?
The Zenfone 8 didn’t have VOLTE and VOWIFI support for Optus, Telstra and Vodafone out of the box, and owners had to wait for software updates before VOLTE and VOWIFI support was added. I believe the Zenfone 8 only got VOLTE support on the Telstra network in May or June this year.
