In conjunction with TGS 2022, the Japan Game Awards presented Elden Ring with the Game of the Year on Sep 15, 2022. Elden Ring was undoubtedly one of 2022’s more noteworthy releases for gamers, as is well knowledge. Elden Ring garnered astounding sales numbers and positive reviews, leading many to feel even in the early months of this year that it ought to be named game of the year. FromSoftware, famed for the critically acclaimed Dark Souls trilogy and other blockbusters like Bloodborne and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, is the company behind the game.

Elden Ring is FromSoftware’s first effort at creating a game with a truly open world, allowing players to explore the Lands Between with as few limitations as possible. The glowing reviews for Elden Ring have complimented everything from the backstory created by series creators Hidetaka Miyazaki and George R.R. Martin to the challenging combat that is at once very irritating and incredibly gratifying.

This victory for the crown is probably the first of many more to come. The eagerly anticipated Elden Ring definitely lived up to the anticipation and was a huge success on both a critical and monetary level. Only God of War: Ragnarok is anticipated to pose a real challenge when additional awards are given out in a year that saw few significant releases due to the pandemic’s long-term effects.
