The AI powered Google Clips camera announced back in October last year is one step closer to launch today after heading through the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for certification.
The device which passed through the FCC doesn’t specifically name the device as the Clips camera, but lists the model # G015A which has previously been associated with the device. It was also the model # used when the camera was certified by the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) in November last year.
The FCC filing doesn’t list much about the camera itself, except to show it’s battery powered and comes with both WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, but Google has plenty of info on the device on the US Google Store where it will be selling for $249USD ($310AUD). The camera will only be sold in the US, with Google not saying much about expansion of the camera to other markets.
The Clips is AI powered, with no shutter button it relies on AI to take the right shot at the right moment – and it will learn what those right moments are over time. The Google Clips camera won’t capture sound, instead capturing short photos and videos which will remain on the device until you choose to upload them to the cloud or share them.
It’s a niche device, but one that’s interested most of the Ausdroid crew, so we’ll definitely be trying to lay our hands on one of these as soon as Google puts them up for sale.
