Fresh from CES 2018, D-link has launched their new COVR-C1203 model mesh Wi-Fi system in Australia today.
Sporting pastel colours on top and a rounded triangle shape for each mesh node, D-link has joined in the trend of home networking equipment looking friendly rather than bristling with spiky antennae.
On first glance, the COVR-C1203 appears to compete directly with the Netgear Orbi and Linksys Velop which we have previously reviewed on Ausdroid. However this assumption is incorrect.
For now at least D-link has decided not to release their full CES 2018 mesh Wi-Fi product range in Australia, with the higher end D-link COVR-C202 not officially for sale here yet.
The COVR-C1203 is a dual band mesh Wi-Fi system that doesn’t have the dedicated 3rd backhaul Wi-Fi band that the Orbi, Velop and the D-link COVR-C202 use to transfer data between their mesh Wi-Fi nodes.
However interestingly the COVR-C1203 does support ethernet backhaul between it’s 3 mesh WiFI nodes, which D-link calls “Covr Points”.
Each Covr Point has 2 ethernet ports that could come in handy for use with gadgets like smart TVs and gaming consoles.
We aim to review the D-link COVR-C1203 soon to test it’s claims of wireless AC speeds of up to 1200 Mbps, seamless coverage under one Wi-Fi access point name for up to 465 square metres and automatic Band Steering to guide wireless devices between 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz WiFi frequencies as appropriate.
The D-link COVR-C1203 is available for purchase today in Australia now at dlink.com.au for AUD $449.95 and at major consumer electronics retailers.
