I recently reviewed the LG G7 Thinq for Ausdroid and therefore visited a few major consumer electronics retailers to see if they stocked cases for the phone. None did, including JB HI-FI the main retailer for this phone model in Australia.
One catch with buying a flagship mobile phone like the LG G7 Thinq is that most of the major brand manufacturers of phone accessories concentrate on selling cases that cater for the Samsung/Apple duo that dominate Australian mobile phone sales.
Thankfully a company called Ringke is there to save the day for LG mobile phone fans. Ringke is a big smart phone case manufacturer that’s popular in Asia and the USA but it’s headquarters are located in South Korea, which is an important point for LG smart phone fans.
Since Samsung and LG are two of the biggest conglomerate companies in South Korea, Ringke always has a wide range of smart phone cases available for every new LG phone released broadly in the international market.
The Fusion X is the toughest in the Ringke range but I’m a fan of the mid-range Fusion which protects the phone well but doesn’t add too much bulk.
I’ve purchased several Ringke cases in the past to protect phones owned by family members, however in this case Ringke offered to send samples of it’s Fusion and Air series LG G7 Thinq cases for Ausdroid to have a look at. In the photo below the Air cases are across the top and the Fusion cases across the bottom.
A plus of the Fusion series is the clear back so you can see the phone colours as intended by the designers. For those into minimal thinner cases the Air series will suit you better but if you choose a coloured option you won’t be able to see the phones native back colour.
If you buy one, inside the Fusion case delivery pouch you’ll find the case and a free wrist strap.
You’ll need to carefully peel off the protective film on both sides of the case surface before putting your phone it it.
I tried to take a photo of the LG G7 Thinq with a case on it but unfortunately due to the unusually dry winter we’re having in Sydney the phone and I both attract a lot of dust particles so the photo didn’t look good. The photos supplied by Ringke below give you an idea of what the G7 Thinq looks like with the cases installed (Fusion at left, Air at right).
If you do go ahead and order a Ringke case the best place to buy them from is the Ringke website. In the USA you can order them from Amazon but unfortunately Australians are blocked from buying via the Amazon US site and the Amazon AU site isn’t a Ringke stockist. Ringke charges in USD with a flat shipping fee to Australia of $US9.99. The Air case is currently priced at $US 11.99 and the Fusion case $US 12.99.
Ringke Fusion is $12, $13 up to $16 on eBay with free delivery. I like Spigen cases which start at around $16 with free delivery.
Thanks for the eBay tip Greg
