We’re often cautious before discussing Kickstarter projects, however, every so often we come across something that we think we should share. The FireFlies wire-free Bluetooth earbuds are one such project.
What are FireFlies? They are a pair of in-ear, rechargeable, Bluetooth, stereo headphones, without the typical interconnecting cord and being Bluetooth they can pair to any compatible Bluetooth device. These aren’t the first such product in the market, but they are trying to deliver these for only $99USD to Kickstarter backers, shipping to Australia is an additional $25USD.
It seems the “internet” agrees with us as the campaign reached it’s $20,000 funding goal within the first day with all of the early bird specials gone already.

The FireFlies come with:
- Pair of Bluetooth Ear buds
- Charging pod, with a claimed 3 full recharges
- Adjustable ear tips
- Special “locking wings” to secure the buds in you ear lobe
One interesting difference with this Kickstarter project is their timelines, the team behind the FireFlies have taken the product from concept to finished production sample. If true, this means that the months of “Were trying to find a partner” or “we’re working with our engineering tolerances” you see with other Kickstarter may not happen here, assuming their partner can handle whatever demand they generate through this Kickstarter.
The team behind the earphones are planning on a September 2016 shipping timeframe for early backers. As we said, we typically don’t cover a lot of Kickstarters but these little guys are very promising, assuming the battery life is good, and the build and audio quality are as high as claimed, then these could well be a great set of headphones.
We’re keen to get out hands on a Set of FireFlies to give the full Ausdroid Review treatment, so we’ll see if the company has a review program. In the meantime drop by Kickstarter and have a look. Just remember as with all crowd funding campaign you’re backing the idea not pre-ordering a guaranteed product.

I don’t care what brand or what gimmick a company is offering – If I can’t test drive a pair of headphones in a physical store with my own device playing certain songs of my choosing, forget it. Pass.
Considering most companies won’t let you test drive earbuds due to health issues this isn’t usually a problem.
Interesting find AD. Two questions though… 1) How long does a charge last? 2) If your phone has to transmit to two bluetooth devices (Compared to one with a normal headphone bluetooth connection) wouldn’t that put a much bigger drain on the phones battery?
